St. Alphonsus/St.
Patrick upholds fully the standards and policies established by the
Archdiocese of Chicago, the Office of Catholic Education, and the Illinois
State Board of Education.
Tuition assistance is
available to all current families through the Millennium Grant Program.
Families are encouraged to apply for these grants, which offer funding for
partial tuition costs. A confidential application form is required.
Every school day begins
with our entire student body coming together for morning prayers. We
celebrate weekly masses or prayer services. In addition, participation in
feast days, Reconciliation, and other special religious events is marked
with prayerful celebration. Students in all grades can serve as lectors.
Our liturgical choir is comprised of singers in grades 4-8. Mass servers
are trained in grades 5-8. We have a sacristan ministry in grade 8
consisting of boys and girls who maintain the prayerful environment in our
chapel and set the environment for weekly and special Masses.
Students in grades 3-7 take
the Terra Nova Standardized Achievement Tests each spring. Our test scores
have been consistently outstanding according to national and regional
norms.
Our early childhood
program is extremely well respected in our community. Its focus is
experiential, following the developmental progress of the young child as
set forth in today's research.
A strong academic
curriculum in all major subjects, guided by highly competent teachers,
has always been a trademark of St. Alphonsus/St. Patrick. In addition,
daily religion classes focus upon Catholic history and practice, as well
as values and morality.
Our multiple computer
labs expose the children to hands-on computer applications, as well as
provide guided Internet access. In addition, each classroom is equipped
with a computer with Internet access for individual class assignments. The
school's website (www.stals-stpats.org) is updated regularly.
Art Quest is a
formal hands-on art program that is presented to the children biweekly.
Children in all grades participate in music class weekly.
Spanish is offered
to all children in grades 2-6 as a before/after school program. In grades
7 and 8 Spanish is a formal part of the language arts curriculum.
The Junior Great Books
Program is taught at grades K-6. The program teaches young readers how
to read thoughtfully and think critically, helping students become more
self-reliant readers, thinkers and learners.
The Athletic Association
provides an opportunity for all students to participate in sports in
grades 4-8. We have teams in cheerleading and in volleyball and
basketball. Many of our teams are enjoying success capturing several
conference and tournament championships.
Our Student Council consists
of elected representatives from grades 4-8. The Council organizes a number
of activities, which include food drives, seasonal events and
celebrations, a "penny drive," and many more.
The Ecology Club provides
a recycling program for our school. The members participate in nature
walks, plan the Earth Day program, and partake in the Audubon Bird Feeding
Program.
The St. Alphonsus/St.
Patrick Band is available to students in grades 4-8. Band members
learn the basics of music, and participate in concerts and contests
throughout the year.
Choir is available
to students in grades 4-8. These students serve as cantors for our weekly
liturgies.
Drama Club is
available as an after school activity in grades 4-8.
Kids Care Club is a
service club available to students in grades 4-8. At monthly meetings the
children choose an activity that allows them to serve others.
The SHOP/Manna Program,
a shopping certificate program that costs nothing extra to families, may
be used to receive substantial tuition credits.
Lemont School District
#113 provides free bus transportation for students who live within its
boundaries.
Hot lunches are
available daily in all grades.
The Extended Day Program
is available for guided supervision of children in grades K-8 after
school until 6:00 PM.
Parental involvement is
an important part of the St. Al's/St. Pat's tradition, and is the
foundation for the family atmosphere for which we are known. Volunteers
make up several organizations including School
Advisory Council, Family School Association, Athletic Association
and C.A.R.E.
Group. There are numerous opportunities for families to help as room
parents and coaches, Art Quest and Great Books volunteers, as well as
participating in fund raising events.
