Sacraments
Christ's work on
earth is made visible in the Sacraments. We as a parish community
celebrate the grace that Christ gives to us through the Sacraments.
Sacrament of Baptism,
Eucharist (First Communion), and Confirmation
For children: Baptisms are celebrated the second and third Sundays of
the month immediately following the 11:30 am Sunday Mass (11 am in summer).
Parents need to be registered active parishioners prior to arranging the
baptism at St. Alphonsus. If this is a first-born child, the parents are
required to attend a "Pre-Baptism" class. Both sponsors should
be adults and one an active practicing Catholic. The other sponsor need
not be Catholic but needs to be an active practicing member in their
church. A sponsor's role is to help the baptized live in this world in
such a way as to always give the greater glory to God. Call the Office
Center at (630) 257-2414 a few months in advance to make arrangements.
In order to receive First
Communion, students must be enrolled in either St. Alphonsus/St. Patrick
School or our Religious Education program. First Communion is usually made
in 2nd grade and Confirmation is typically celebrated in 8th grade. Please
call the school at (630) 783-2220 or the Religious Education Office at
(630) 257-2371 for more details.
For adults: Baptisms
are celebrated with the other Sacraments of Initiation (Eucharist and
Confirmation) during the Easter Vigil. A process of formation in the RCIA
(Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is required prior to the Easter
Vigil. Please call the Office Center at (630) 257-2414 to inquire about the RCIA
program.
Sacrament of
Reconciliation
Saturdays at 4 pm in the church, and by appointment.
See specific details in the bulletin about the Tri-Parish Communal
Reconciliation during Lent and Advent.
Sacrament of Matrimony
The bride or groom must be a registered, active parishioner of St.
Alphonsus FOR A MINIMUM OF SIX MONTHS in order to schedule a wedding date.
If either party has been
previously married, the wedding may not be
scheduled in Church without first speaking with the pastor and unless all
Chicago Archdiocesan requirements are met. The wedding date with the Church is to be scheduled PRIOR to
contracting dates with a reception hall.
Weddings are scheduled on
Saturdays: 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. Weddings will not be scheduled on Sundays. To schedule a wedding, contact the Office Center at (630)
257-2414 Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.
Sacrament of Anointing
of the Sick
Please contact the Office Center at (630) 257-2414 to make arrangements.
